Chervò player ambassador Kurt Kitayama has successfully qualified for The Open Championship at St Andrews after a second-place finish at this year’s Genesis Scottish Open.
Runner-up at the Renaissance Club, the American earned one of three spots available for the upcoming major championship after a final-round score of 66 that saw him finish the day on six under par. Clubhouse leader after posting his scorecard, the 29-year-old was narrowly pipped to the title by compatriot Xander Schauffele.
Kitayama, the fastest player to register two wins in DP World Tour history after victory in his third start at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in December 2018 and the Oman Open in his 11th start the following March, will now be making his third Open appearance.
“It will be really exciting heading to St Andrews and playing in the 150th Open Championship there,” Kitayama said. “I can’t wait to get out there and play in front of the fans gathered in the grandstands at what I’m sure will be a fantastic atmosphere.”
Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Italian brand Chervò’s name has become synonymous with sport and golf apparel collections that bring together high-quality, comfort and excellence. Partnering up with the Ryder Cup in the 2010s, Chervò will continue as an official partner for the 2023 Ryder Cup as the tournament comes to Italy and Rome’s Marco Simone Golf Club.
Kitayama is one of several tour players who are part of the Chervò family. Other golfers including Johannes Veerman (DP World Tour), Jenny Shin (LPGA Tour) and Matteo Manassero (Challenge Tour) also wear the garments made by the company while playing at the most prestigious golf courses in the world.
