A trio of major winners are set to collide on the Legends Tour this summer at Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen, with Tom Lehman the latest big name to confirm he will be competing at the 2023 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship.
Winner of the 1996 Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club as well as captain of the 2006 US Ryder Cup team, Lehman is set to head to Europe in the summer as the Legends Tour visits the Aberdeenshire venue for the first time from August 23-27.
The American will battle it out against at least two other former major winners, with Ian Woosnam – Lehman’s European captaincy opponent at the 2006 Ryder Cup - and Michael Campbell both confirmed to take part. Welshman Woosnam famously won the 1991 US Masters, while Campbell’s heroics saw him claim the US Open in 2005 at Pinehurst by holding off Tiger Woods over the closing holes.
Defending champion Adilson da Silva, who captured his maiden Legends Tour victory by six strokes at Formby Golf Club & Formby Ladies Golf Club last year, will also be present as the Brazilian looks to defend his title at the stunning Scottish links layout.
Lehman said: “It is an honour for me to join so many distinguished names on the Legends Tour at this year’s Staysure PGA Seniors Championship. With my love for the Open Championship after winning the famous Claret Jug in 1996, I have always had an affinity with links golf and the intricacies of how the game is played on such courses, and so am looking forward to visiting Scotland to play in the event this August.”
Despite only opening in 2012, Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen has established itself as one of the finest courses in the UK. The layout occupies a three-mile stretch of North Sea coastline and is made up of two out-and-back loops of nine which sweep around towering dunes and snaking valleys.
General tickets are now on sale, with adult day tickets priced at £15, £10 for concessions (over 50s) and free entry for juniors (under 16s), while season passes are also available.
Phil Harrison, chief executive officer of the Legends Tour, said: “We are delighted to welcome Tom Lehman to the Legends Tour as we prepare to visit Trump International Links Aberdeen for the first time.
“The Staysure PGA Seniors Championship is always a highlight on the calendar and with so much going on, the week promises to be a great experience for all involved – fans included!”
Alongside the 2023 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, a Wapp Celebrity Series event will be held at the venue on Wednesday, August 23, as famous faces from the world of sport and entertainment compete against each other.
Award-winning journalist and broadcaster Dan Walker, former Manchester United midfielder and Celtic and Scotland football manager Gordon Strachan, along with legendary Scotland Rugby Union captain Gavin Hastings are just some of the names set to take part.
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, television and film star James Nesbitt and former rugby union player Mike Tindall will also be present.
Limited places are still available to compete in the playing experiences – including alongside the celebrities – at the 2023 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship.
The Celebrity Series playing experience will see participants team up with a celebrity and Legends Tour professional for one round, while receiving access to the player’s lounge for breakfast, bespoke gifts, and hospitality post-event.
Amateur golfers looking for an exclusive opportunity to live the life of a golf legend across several days can sign up for the Alliance Series in Scotland, playing in front of live crowds and TV cameras for four rounds of golf – one in the Celebrity Series and three in the Alliance Series. Players will also receive a four-night stay in the official tournament hotel, a bespoke gift pack and invitations to all exclusive functions.
