The Legends Tour has unveiled Wapp as its title sponsor for the 2023 Celebrity Series as some of the biggest stars from sport, media and entertainment compete to win a share of £100,000 for their chosen charities.
Changing the game when it comes to travel insurance, Wapp are replacing tedious and boring form filling with smart, app-based cover that turns on as soon as you’re abroad. It’s a travel insurance revolution to be a part of, and in their words: “100% app, 0% faff”.
The new partnership with the Legends Tour will see Wapp sponsor this year’s Celebrity Series events as well as the Celebrity Series Grand Final – an event set to return to Constance Belle Mare Plage in Mauritius in December ahead of the Legends Tour’s season ending MCB Tour Championship.
A fans’ favourite since its launch in 2021, famous faces including former England cricket captain Sir Andrew Strauss, 1996 Formula One World Champion Damon Hill and broadcaster Dan Walker have all competed in the Celebrity Series in recent years.
Celebrity players are joined by a Legends Tour player and an amateur golfer – living the life of their golfing heroes by competing in front of crowds and TV cameras – at events throughout the season as they battle in a Stableford competition to win a place at the end-of-season Grand Final, where they play to take home a split of the £100,000 prize fund for their chosen charity.
Last year, legendary Republic of Ireland and Celtic goalkeeper Packie Bonner secured £25,000 for the Amyloidosis Research Fund with victory at the Celebrity Series Grand Final at Constance Lemuria in the Seychelles Islands, scoring a sensational 67 points over two rounds despite playing with a rental set and additional clubs he had borrowed during practice days – his own set having failed to show following his flight from Ireland.
Three Celebrity Series events will be held in 2023, with competitions in Jersey, Ireland and Scotland beginning incredible weeks of golfing action.
Launching the Wapp Celebrity Series, La Moye Golf Club on the island of Jersey will stage the first event of the season on Thursday June 8. In last year’s Jersey Legends Celebrity Series event, former British and Irish Lions star Scott Quinnell finished in second place as Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler saw off the challenge of the Rugby star and took home victory.
On Thursday June 22, new Legends Tour venue Seapoint Golf Links – a rising star in the ranks of Irish links courses and located on the East coast just an hour north of Dublin – will welcome celebrities ahead of hosting its first ever major international professional tournament, the Irish Legends.
Later in the summer on Wednesday, August 23, the 2023 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship event at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire, another first-time Legends Tour venue, will host the final wapp Celebrity Series event ahead of the Grand Final.
Celebrities set to compete in the events will be announced over the coming weeks, but tickets with an early booking discount of 25 per cent are available to purchase now for the Irish Legends and Staysure PGA Seniors Championship. Tickets for the Jersey Legends will be free.
Phil Harrison, chief executive officer of the Legends Tour, said: “We are delighted to have Wapp as the title sponsor for this year’s Celebrity Series. The field of celebrities for this year promises to be incredible and we are looking forward to welcoming them all as they compete for huge prizes for their chosen charities.”
The upcoming Legends Tour season promises to be the biggest since its rebranding in 2020, with larger fields, record-breaking prize funds and new venues hosting major events.
