Onyria Quinta da Marinha Hotel has added another accolade to a sparkling collection at the prestigious M&IT Awards this month.
From an illustrious shortlist of nominees in the Best Overseas Hotel category, Portugal’s Onyria Quinta da Marinha received the silver award, further cementing its status as a leader in luxury travel. The five-star hotel, which has only grown in stature since a significant renovation in 2020, was also the highest-rated European venue.
Famously described as ‘the Oscars of the industry’, this year’s M&IT Awards ceremony was held on September 9 to recognise the best the MICE sector has to offer. Around 1,300 attendees gathered inside Battersea’s Evolution London to celebrate outstanding achievement across the industry. An impeccably observed minute’s silence for the late Queen Elizabeth II was followed by musical performances, as compere Ore Oduba hosted an evening of awards and entertainment.
As well as standing tall as a bucket-list destination for tourists and golfers, Onyria Quinta da Marinha is a leader in the MICE industry, with four meeting rooms and facilities to cater for up to 450 people. A team of experts assist with event organisation, ranging from seminars and meetings to banquets and conferences.
The highly competitive Best Overseas Hotel bracket saw Onyria Quinta da Marinha nominated alongside other distinguished resorts including Ireland’s Adare Manor and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Sandals Royal Barbados and Lisbon’s Four Seasons Ritz received gold and bronze honours respectively.
It has been another memorable year for Onyria Quinta da Marinha, with the completion of a €240,000 investment in solar panels set to make the resort even more eco-friendly as part of their long-term commitment to sustainability.
João Pinto Coelho, Sales Director at Onyria Golf Resorts, said: “We are delighted to be recognised at such a prestigious event, and we believe this award is a good reflection of the work we’ve put into making our hotel one of the best in the world for business as well as leisure.
“The refurbishment in 2020 has taken our hotel at Onyria Quinta da Marinha to an even higher level, and we look forward to continuing to find ways to improve in the future and remain a leader in the industry.”
Just a short drive from the capital city of Lisbon, the resort places guests in the heart of the tranquil Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. The par-71 Championship golf course, designed by prolific architect
Robert Trent Jones, has hosted major tournaments and attracts passionate golfers from across the world.
