DARWIN ESCAPES MAKES HUGE CHARITY DONATION

Darwin Escapes – one of the UK’s biggest providers of holiday breaks and holiday home ownership – has donated more than £20,000 of furniture items to British Heart Foundation shops, to help support the charity’s vital work.

The furniture donated will be sold in the charity’s nationwide stores and online eBay shop, to help the BHF fund vital research into cardiovascular diseases and their risk factors, as well as supporting the 7.6 million people living with heart and circulatory diseases in the UK. With donations, the BHF funds ground-breaking research to help improve and save the lives of people affected by heart and circulatory diseases.

The £23,616 raised from items donated could:

·      Buy a fluorescence microscope that allows researchers to observe what is going on inside heart or blood vessel cells (£15,000).

·      Fund a heart attack research project for one month, including research staff and funds for the equipment and laboratory materials needed for the project (£7,000).

·      Buy a brand new piece of equipment that allows biologists to separate tiny proteins from the complex mixtures found in blood, saliva or inside cells – this can help them identify molecules linked to coronary heart disease (£1,000).

With over 710 stores UK-wide, the British Heart Foundation in one year saves more than 71,000 tonnes of items from going to waste and prevents around 135,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions from being released into the atmosphere. The shops are a great place to pick up one of a kind, bargain pieces, while also supporting the reuse cycle and funding the charity’s work.

Allison Swaine-Hughes, Retail Director at British Heart Foundation, said: “We are hugely grateful to Darwin Escapes for these fantastic donations, which amount to more than £20,000. Donations such as these means our customers can enjoy great value quality items for their homes, and whilst helping the BHF continue our vital work to support those living with heart and circulatory diseases.”

Lindsey Esse, Managing Director of Darwin Escapes, said: “We have been working with the British Heart Foundation for a little while now, and this donation is only part of the plan we have to continue to support them. The charity does fantastic, crucial research that has helped so many people, so it was a no-brainer to turn the furniture into a donation.

“We are incredibly proud to play a role in all that they do.”
