London Golf Club is giving a helping hand in the West Kingsdown, Sevenoaks and wider Kent community this festive season after making the first of several planned December donations to a charity that supports more than 300 families in the local area.
Earlier this month, London Golf Club’s chief executive Stephen Follett visited The Community Cupboard in West Kingsdown to donate a box of retail stock clothing worth £7,000. The donation is the first of many which the club hopes to make over the coming weeks.
During his visit, Follett met volunteers from the charity to discuss how the Ash club can continue to offer support moving forward.
The donation is the first of several that are planned this December as London Golf Club looks to give back to the community. The Club will be putting in place a food donation bin at the clubhouse over the coming days to encourage members and staff to support the charity, and a representative from the club will deliver those donations each week over the Christmas period.
Follett said: “The Community Cupboard does incredible work to help those in the area and we were delighted to give them what we hope will be the first of many donations over the coming weeks.
“It’s vital to us that London Golf Club supports community initiatives such as this one and we are always looking at ways to give back to those most in need in the local area.
“Our members and our staff are right behind this and we look forward to working more closely with the great people at The Community Cupboard over the coming weeks and beyond.”
Formed in response to a plea for help in April 2021, The Community Cupboard has grown to support close to 300 families through food and other donations. Initially only helping those in the Dartford area, the charity has extended its coverage to Tonbridge and is open five days a week.
A spokesperson for The Community Cupboard said: “We are delighted to have begun working with The London Golf Club to help support local families who are struggling at this time. We are grateful for the recent large donation of clothing that was donated to us and the support that they provided during the first few days of the recent winter weather.
“The Community Cupboard is a non-judgmental support service based in West Kingsdown and supports hundreds of families each year in Kent. We rely on continued support from local businesses and individuals to meet the growing demand on our service. Together, we are able to ensure that all families have access to essential food and toiletries and that no individual is left hungry.
“We have various donation points locally and if you wish to donate, please do contact us on communitycupboard19@gmail.com.”
London Golf Club, located in nearby Ash, continues to support local and national causes which are closest to the hearts of its membership and staff.
In October, the club announced a partnership with Prostate Cancer UK to support its aims in raising awareness of the most common cancer in men and raise funds for ground-breaking research to deliver a national prostate cancer screening programme that will help to save more lives from the illness.
Prostate Cancer UK was specifically chosen by London Golf Club’s staff, one of the many employee development initiatives which the Club has introduced in 2022.
