Trump Turnberry has earned global acclaim once again with a trio of honours at the ninth annual World Golf Awards.
The legendary Scottish resort was named both Scotland and Europe’s ‘Best Golf Hotel’, while the Turnberry Lighthouse won the crown of World’s ‘Best Halfway House’.
Hosted at the exclusive Rixos Premium Saadiyat Island resort in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday evening, the World Golf Awards reward excellence in the golf tourism market, with Turnberry’ success yet more recognition for one of the world’s most exclusive and luxurious golf destinations.
A long-standing Ayrshire icon, the Turnberry hotel is synonymous with luxury. Known for its resplendent Edwardian architecture, the building overlooks the resort’s three world-class golf courses and the beautiful west coast. Out to sea, the mysterious Ailsa Craig completes the scene, a finishing touch on one of the great hotel destinations in the world.
The hotel is as elegant inside as the exterior suggests. One hundred and ninety-two well-appointed rooms and suites offer guests a variety of accommodation options, each delicately furnished and designed with the ultimate level of comfort in mind. As well as exceptional quality, being named the best golf hotel in not only the country but the continent is also a reflection of the attentive, unintrusive service on which Turnberry prides itself.
Meanwhile, the Turnberry Lighthouse award has highlighted what was already widely regarded as the finest halfway house in the world. Serving a range of beverages and refreshments, the Turnberry Lighthouse offers unparalleled views across the coast and courses for both guests and golfers, with the restaurant sitting directly adjacent to the Ailsa course’s ninth hole.
Jane Frazer, Director of Sales & Marketing at Turnberry, said: “We are always striving to give our guests an unrivalled experience, so it is always pleasing to win awards like these.
“Trump Turnberry holds our hotel to the highest standard, and we’re particularly proud of the Turnberry Lighthouse since we opened our halfway house in 2016.”
Steeped in history, Trump Turnberry has earned a worldwide reputation as one of golf’s greatest institutions. The legendary Ailsa course has hosted four memorable Open Championships, including the unforgettable 1977 ‘Duel in the Sun’. Complementing the Ailsa are the recently reimagined King Robert the Bruce, now also regarded among the UK’s outstanding layouts, and the nine-hole Arran course.
Alongside golf, guests at Turnberry can experience a range of fine-dining options, including the signature 1906 restaurant. The Duel in the Sun restaurant – named after that infamous showdown between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus during the Open Championship of 1977 - provides vistas across both 18-hole courses, while The Grand Tea Lounge & Bar is perfect for hotel guests looking to unwind after a day on the course. The resort also offers several outdoor activities, from horse riding to clay shooting, to thrill guests of all ages.
