Ladies European Tour player, Julie Maisongrosse, has added a new dimension to the coaching at Gualta – the Costa Brava’s top par-three course.
The 32-year-old, born in Colombia but raised in the south of France, was French Amateur champion in 2005 and went on to gain her LET card via Q-School in 2009 and playing for three seasons on Tour before making the move into coaching in recent years.
After previously coaching at neighbouring Golf de Pals, Maisongrosse has now also linked up with the acclaimed 18-hole short course near Girona. And head professional, Richard Jackson, believes her appointment brings a fresh perspective as part of the revamped coaching facilities at Gualta.
Jackson said: “Julie is an excellent addition to the academy, especially with the kids and ladies. She is a Tour professional but is brilliant at finding the right level with whoever she is teaching and we are delighted to have her with us at Gualta.”
Amid the restrictions and challenges of recent times, Jackson has updated the academy to incorporate a big screen and maintain social distancing for the use of Trackman technology and video analysis.
Jackson said: “It’s a little bit different but we’ve adapted and it still allows us to do our coaching in pretty much the same way as before.
“At Gualta, the main priority for us is always to enjoy the game. We are definitely a bit more relaxed about things like dress codes and there are no handicap restrictions to play. Everyone is very welcome and hopefully we will see a few more new golfers giving it a try when things start getting back to a bit of normality again.”
PGA Catalunya makes a perfect 10
The famous Stadium course at PGA Catalunya – the jewel in the crown of the Costa Brava – just got even better after its updated 10th hole opened for play.
The start to the back nine has now incorporated a right-to-left dogleg, which asks even more questions of strategy and accuracy at a course which tests every factor in your game.
Director of agronomy at PGA Catalunya, David Bataller, said: “The Stadium course is always an ongoing process for improvements and we’ve made a major change to improve the 10th hole.
“It makes the hole much more interesting as you now need the right length from the tee to land in the perfect position in order to go for the green with your second shot and you are coming into the green from a different angle, which brings the bunkers more into play.”
