GASOL FOUNDATION UNITES SPAIN’S TOP STARS AT LA HACIENDA LINKS GOLF RESORT TO HELP PREVENT CHILDHOOD OBESITY
Leading figures from the Spanish sports, entertainment and business worlds teamed up with NBA legend Pau Gasol at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort this month to take part in the second edition of the Gasol Foundation Golf Experience and raise valuable funds to help prevent childhood obesity.
Sponsored by the Gasol Foundation, the 36-hole event once again brought together prominent athletes, institutional representatives, collaborating companies and personalities from various fields at the Andalusia resort to share an experience aimed at raising funds and promoting healthy lifestyles among children and teenagers.
Taking place at La Hacienda from June 12-14, the charity event featured golf on the resort’s two acclaimed 18-hole championship courses, the Links and the Heathland, with basketball legend Gasol, president and co-founder of the Gasol Foundation, officially opening the tournament before the first day’s action on the Heathland course.
Joining Gasol on the fairways were prominent figures from Spanish sport and celebrities including Rudy Fernández, Feliciano López, Helen Lindes, Paula Echevarría, Bernd Schuster, Alberto Berasategui, Jonathan Soriano, Miguel Torres, Ona Carbonell and Paula Leitón. Leading Spanish golfers including Adri Arnaus, Álvaro Quirós, Ángel Ayora, Paula Martín and Andrea Revuelta were also present to join in the fun alongside guests from the worlds of gastronomy, media and entertainment.
Away from the fairways, the Gasol Foundation Golf Experience once again became a platform to raise awareness about the importance of promoting healthy habits from an early age. Throughout the weekend, participants, sponsors, and institutions shared various activities and meetings designed to raise awareness of the Gasol Foundation's mission and the impact of its programs and initiatives.
The closing event brought together institutional representatives, sponsors, and participants for a charity dinner that served to highlight the work carried out by the foundation for over a decade. Speakers at the event included Isabel Sánchez, secretary general for sport at the Regional Government of Andalusia; Javier Vidal, second vice president of the Provincial Council of Cádiz; and Juan Franco, mayor of La Línea de la Concepción, all of whom emphasised the importance of continuing to promote healthy lifestyles and support initiatives capable of generating a positive social impact through sport.
Gasol said: “The foundation was born from a shared desire I have with my brother Marc to help children grow up healthier and address one of the main threats to childhood today: childhood obesity. I would like to offer my sincere thanks for all the support we have received from institutions, sponsors, participants and collaborators as we continue to work together to build healthier environments for future generations.”
Victory in the second Gasol Foundation Golf Experience went to the team of DP World Tour player Adri Arnaus, who topped the final standings ahead of comedian Miguel Lago with the team of top Spanish amateur Paula Martín completing the podium.
The evening concluded with a charity auction which featured an array of glittering items including a Masters Tournament souvenir pack presented by 2017 Masters champion Sergio García, gloves signed by two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso, a tennis racket signed by Spanish legend Rafa Nadal and trainers signed by Gasol.
The funds raised during the event will contribute to further promoting programs and initiatives focused on physical activity, healthy eating, rest and emotional well-being – fundamental pillars of the work carried out by the Gasol Foundation to prevent childhood obesity and foster healthier environments for children and adolescents.
