QUARTET OF TOP GOLF RESORTS TEAM UP TO PROMOTE ‘PORTUGAL’S SILVER GOLF COAST’
A quartet of top golf resorts on Portugal’s Silver Coast have joined forces as they look to establish the region as one of the best golf destinations in continental Europe.
Situated within a 10km radius of each other on a stretch of land just an hour north of Lisbon, Praia D’El Rey Golf & Beach Resort, West Cliffs Golf Links, Royal Obidos Scenic Resort and Guardian Bom Sucesso Golf have officially begun working together to help solidify the region as the perfect golf getaway.
Famed for its rugged coastline, sandy beaches and ancient towns, Portugal’s Silver Coast – an area around 240km long that stretches between Lisbon and Porto – enjoys moderate temperatures all year round.
Since Praia D’El Rey earned a reputation as one of Portugal’s best golf resorts in the late 1990s, the southern tip of the region has long been an area frequented by golfers as part of a wider trip to Lisbon.
But with the region now being home to three of Portugal’s top 20 golf courses, the opportunity to establish the area as ‘Portugal’s Silver Golf Coast’ has seen the venues partner together to encourage visitors to stay longer.
Located close to the historic towns of Peniche and Obidos, the venues – owned by three different owners with Praia D’El Rey Golf & Beach Resort and West Cliffs Golf Links owned by the same group – have begun selling wider golf packages involving golf at all four courses.
Visitors can select which courses they wish to play during their stay at the two five-star hotels, villa or apartment accommodation spread across the four resorts, while transfers are organised free of charge between the resorts.
Antonio Ferreira da Silva, newly promoted director of golf at Praia D’El Rey and West Cliffs Golf Links, said: “To have four golf resorts of such high quality in as close of a proximity as we have here on the Silver Coast is certainly something worth shouting about.
“We know that the best way to ensure more golfers discover this fantastic area is to come together collectively, and we are super excited at what this partnership can not only do for each for us, but also for the wider region.”
While on-course investment is planned for all four courses to further elevate the visitor and member experience, off-course investment has seen the courses also partner together with renowned marketing and public relations industry specialists Azalea to help market and support the destination.
Since launching in 2006, Azalea has established itself as one of Europe’s premier agencies in the golf, tourism, leisure and lifestyle sector, representing best-in-class global venues and brands such as Costa Navarino, Details – Hospitality, Sports, Leisure, Al Zorah Golf Club, Apes Hill Barbados, Troon International, Quinta do Lago, Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, Verdura Resort and Terras da Comporta.
Sean Noble, managing director of Azalea, said: “Having worked with Praia D’El Rey and West Cliffs for several years, it is fantastic to now also be working alongside Royal Obidos and Bom Sucesso to help all four resorts establish and market the wider destination.”
