PLAY-OFF DRAMA LIGHTS UP ECCO TOUR CURTAIN-RAISER AT INFINITUM

Scandinavians Oliver Hundebøll Jørgensen, Tobias Edén and Soren Kjeldsen each triumphed in dramatic play-offs at the inaugural INFINITUM Spring Series – the first three ECCO Tour events ever to be held at the Catalan resort.

The series – comprised of a trio of 54-hole events - began on February 23 with the INFINITUM Spanish Masters, where Denmark’s Hundebøll Jørgensen edged out Albin Tiden and Edoardo Molinari on the third hole of a play-off.

The INFINITUM Championship followed from February 27, where Tobias Edén took the crown, again via a play-off. Playing on the Greg Norman-designed Lakes course, as well as a composite of the Hills course and nine-hole Ruins, the Swede birdied the closing hole to keep his hopes alive before swiftly defeating Jeppe Kristian Andersen in a head-to-head battle.

INFINITUM’s penchant for unforgettable drama was once again underlined in the ‘INFINITUM Spring Series Final – by ECCO’ from March 3 – 5, where, for the third consecutive tournament, extra holes were needed to crown four-time DP World Tour winner Kjeldsen – who will earn a PGA Tour Champions card once he turns 50 in May - the winner over Spain’s Pep Angles. The water hazard-focused Lakes course again provided the stage for a tense finale in which Angles eagled the final hole to edge his way into a play-off.

Also starring was 2023 Ryder Cup vice-captain Molinari, who returned to the Costa Dorada venue with fond memories from last season having won DP World Tour Qualifying School on the same fairways in November 2024, and recorded consecutive top-five finishes in what was his comeback from injury.

As Alfonso Vidaor’s highly regarded Hills course undergoes extensive renovations at the hands of European Golf Design (led by Dave Sampson), nine holes of the Hills were played in conjunction with the Norman-designed Ruins. The Hills course will be played in its entirety when DP World Tour Qualifying School returns for the seventh time this Autumn.

The four-star Hotel Blaumar in nearby Salou played host to many players across the course of the event and surrounding dates. The ECCO Tour has already confirmed that it will return to INFINITUM for another Spring Series in 2026.

Joaquín Mora Bertrán, Deputy General Manager of Golf, Beach Club and F&B at INFINITUM, said: “It has been a pleasure to welcome the ECCO Tour and so many fantastic players to our resort over the last two weeks.

“For nearly the whole year welcome golfers of all ability levels, from novice to Major champion – but it is always special to see top professionals take on our courses and we were treated to three nail-biting finishes.”

Flemming Astrup, owner and Managing Director of the ECCO Tour, said: “This has been our best Spring Series so far, with great golf courses in great condition and the best playing fields in history.

“The service and support we have received from all sides from the Infinitum staff has been second to none. We are already looking forward to next year coming back for the second edition of the Infinitum Spring Series. We do it all again!”

Opening in 2008, INFINITUM is a 45-hole golf complex bolstered by an array of practice facilities and a Callaway Performance Centre. The Hills and Lakes course – the latter of which underwent a major renovation last year – have been the home of DP World Tour Qualifying School Final Stage since 2017.

Situated on the coastline a short drive from Barcelona, the resort is also known for the award-winning INFINITUM Beach Club - a three-time winner of ‘Europe’s Leading Beach Club’ at the World Travel Awards – and a successful real estate portfolio.
