PALMARES TO HOST ALGARVE’S OLDEST GOLF EVENT

The Algarve’s oldest amateur golf tournament will be one of the early highlights of the 2026 golf calendar at Palmares Ocean Living & Golf, as the Portuguese resort prepares for a busy six months of action on its fairways.

The luxury 27-hole venue near Lagos will host the 45th edition of the annual Almond Blossom Tournament across its three acclaimed nine-hole loops – the Alvor, Lagos, and Praia – from January 28-31, 2026.

One of the most important amateur events in Portugal, the Almond Blossom Tournament (or Amendoeiras em Flor in Portuguese) is celebrated annually during the almond tree bloom. Featuring a variety of playing formats, the event – open to men and women affiliated with the golfing union or federation of their countries – is renowned for bringing golfers together in a vibrant atmosphere that blends competition with the natural beauty of early spring in the Algarve.

Palmares is offering a range of attractive options for competitors. Golf-only packages – including three rounds of golf, access to social events, and a prize-giving dinner – start from €310 per person, while a three-night stay-and-play package including all golf, social events, and resort accommodation starts from €685 per person (based on two people sharing a room).

The tournament will take place shortly after Palmares hosts the prestigious Olazábal & Friends Charity Pro-Am for the first time in its history.

Hosted by two-time Masters champion José María Olazábal and featuring Spanish golfing legend Miguel Ángel Jiménez, the event from November 21-23 offers amateurs the exclusive opportunity to join the former European Ryder Cup captain and his friends for a unique, up-close experience at one of Portugal’s top golf resorts.

Nuno Sepulveda, co-CEO at Details – Hospitality, Sports, Leisure, said:
"This is a very special year for Palmares as we celebrate 50 years of golf, and having legends like José María Olazábal and Miguel Ángel Jiménez here makes it even more memorable. Seeing Palmares continue to attract players of this stature is the best proof of the quality of the resort and the experience it offers.

Everyone at Palmares is very proud of its heritage and the role the resort has played in promoting golf in the Algarve. Keeping the tradition of the Almond Blossom alive – a tournament with nearly as many years of history as Palmares itself – is our way of honouring the past while welcoming a new generation of golfers to discover what makes Palmares so special."

Characterised by breathtaking views across the Bay of Lagos, Palmares has cemented its reputation as one of Europe’s bucket-list golf destinations. The 27-hole course, celebrated for the diversity of its challenges, is complemented by award-winning facilities, world-class gastronomy, and a stunning selection of real estate. At the heart of the experience is the highly praised clubhouse, winner of Europe’s Best Clubhouse at the 2024 World Golf Awards.

Golfers staying at the resort can choose from a wide range of luxurious accommodation. Palmares will further enhance its position at the forefront of European golf with the upcoming opening of a JW Marriott International hotel – the luxury brand’s first property in Portugal.

Palmares Ocean Living & Golf is one of ten golf venues in Portugal managed by Details – Hospitality, Sports, Leisure, whose portfolio also includes Vilamoura, Tróia Resort and the newly rebranded PGA Aroeira Lisboa. In addition, the group manages 18 hotels across Portugal.
