Glasgow Warriors stars and golf content creators take on typical links conditions with £1.47 million in potential charity prizes.

Glasgow Warriors players George Horne and Ollie Smith swapped the rugby pitch for the golf course as ten content creators and sports stars took on The Official Hole-in-One Challenge for charity to celebrate the launch of Trump’s Twelve at Trump Turnberry.

With the field facing typical links conditions on the Ayrshire coast, the new 12-hole par-three course provided plenty of entertainment as players tried to turn one well-judged tee shot into a sizeable donation.

The challenge, staged with Official Hole In One, offered £1,000 for The Golf Foundation for an ace on seven holes, while four carried a £10,000 prize for a charity of the player’s choice. The biggest opportunity awaited on the 11th, where a hole-in-one would secure £100,000 for their chosen cause.

Across the ten players, £1.47 million in potential charity prizes was at stake, with every tee shot and green filmed by the Official Hole in One.

Smith produced one of the day’s closest calls on the 157-yard fifth. With the strong wind behind him, his tee shot pitched short and tracked dead on line towards the hole and looking like hitting the flag, only to roll just past the pin.

Content creator and broadcaster Liv Cooke provided another anxious watch on the 107-yard eighth. Her ball landed beyond the hole, caught the slope and rolled back towards the cup before stopping within two feet.

Alistair Kyle, Golf Academy Manager at Trump Turnberry, said: “It was great fun from start to finish. With that much wind, everyone had to get creative with their club selection and how they played each shot, and Ollie and Liv both came very close.

“The chance to win money for charity gave everyone something extra to play for. This is exactly what we want Trump’s Twelve to be about: getting people together, enjoying their golf and having a go, whatever their ability.”

Peter ‘Tubes’ Dale, of Tubes & Ange Golf Life, added: “Trying to make a hole-in-one is hard enough without a strong wind joining in. When Ollie’s ball started heading towards the flag, we all thought it might drop, and Liv’s shot came close right to the last roll. Great fun, plenty of laughs over a fantastic short course and some very good causes to aim for and the hospitality at Trump Turnberry is world-class .”

Built on the land previously occupied by the Arran Course, Trump’s Twelve features holes ranging from 70 to 206 yards, with undulating greens, varied green surrounds, natural wasteland areas and water features.

Players hit from SYNLawn UK’s Tee Strike+ surfaces, installed on every hole to provide consistent teeing areas throughout the year. SYNLawn is also the Official Synthetic Surface Partner of TGL, with its premium golf surfaces tried and tested in the league by the world’s leading players.

Multiple teeing grounds offer different challenges for beginners, families and experienced golfers, while the course forms part of the Trump Turnberry Golf Academy alongside its TrackMan Range, Trackman iO simulators, short-game facilities and PGA coaching.

Joining the Ailsa and King Robert the Bruce courses, Trump’s Twelve gives visitors a shorter round with plenty of opportunities to sharpen their scoring skills – or, as the launch challenge demonstrated, get a whole group willing one ball towards the hole.
